22re overheating issue

I searched and found a lot of good info, but I'm still having issues. After running for a while, it will get 3/4 up on the dash indicator, sometimes higher, but not normally. After I turn it off, it sounds like it's boiling. However, when I pull the overflow, its shooting hot air. Based on this, I purged the system by running it for ~30 minutes with front tires on a curb. Seen some air released. Still over heats.

Since researching, I changed the t-stat to a 180 and it works. The water pump is working. Nothing is leaking externally. The coolant looks good, other than its green, but that's how I bought it. The oil looks good. Nothing is smoking. The stock mechanical fan it operative.

I know it needs timing chain guides, which will come shortly. Also, the heater doesn't blow. Haven't checked if it's the blower, or whatnot.

Therefore, any other ideas on what it might be? Not sure what it's supposed to do during purging, but when idling, the coolant would overflow from the rad. I throttles up and it would flush through. Is this supposed to work that way?

Thanks for the info and input.

Boiling? Make sure the coolant is AT LEAST 60/40 mix of coolant/water, respectively. Anti-freeze not only lowers the temperature at which water freezes, but also increases the temperature at which it boils. So if you don't have enough coolant, its like running straight water.

It was good, but I can recheck.

Just checked and a little better than 50-50. Still shouldn't be boiling with a 180 degree t-stat. If the fan is working, could the rad be clogged? Coolant is flowing.

I was just about to ask what kind of condition the radiator was in

Do a radiator flush and put in 60/40 mix.
