People get mixed up because the front seal is installed in the oil pump housing Which is much easier to do off the engine.

Then the timing cover has the odd shaped rubber gasket that is round to seal the oil pump housing and the timing cover.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. So when putting the front seal in the housing, do you normally just lay it on a table to set the seal in? What do you use to drive the seal in?
