22re help....

New here have gotten tons of information from fellow yota lovers. I recently put a reman long block into my 93 runner and did the egr block off. The truck starts and runs great but seems to be under powered on the highway, hard to maintain speed in 5th so must down shift to 4th. In town speeds are not a problem no noticable loss. There is no CEL on or anything else. Also I'm getting right around 11.5 miles to the gallon, according to my calculations. I'm used to drivin my 92 with the 3.0 so is the 22re just that way or do I maybe have some vaccuum hoses not hooked up right. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Are you sure you got the timing correct? No power is usually a sure sign of the timing being off.

11.5 MPG seems kinda low, but on mine I have to downshift to 4th ever now and then on the freeway up smaller hills to maintain 65mph. But no problems doing 80+ on flats. That's with factory 4:10's and 31's. I am getting 20-25 MPG freeway with a carbed motor. And before someone says it, this motor of mine should be putting out roughly the same as a stock re with what I have done to it. with the exception of my cam timing being slightly off by maybe 2-3 degrees due to block shave.

x2 on the timing. Make sure your 5 BTDC with it jumpered.
