22re electrical problems

Hi everybody my name is Dennis and this is my first posting here. I have a couple of strange things that are happening with my 1993 long bed p/u truck with a 22re engine. The 1st. thing is that: I have to advance the distributor all the way forward to be able to get the timing to 5 degrees BTDC. I have checked the 0 degree mark on the crank pulley with the position of the piston. The last time I had the valve cover off to adjust valve lash. The rocker arms for #1 cylinder were both loose. The camshaft gear was in the 11 o'clock or 11:30 position (depending on who you talk to). That kind of ruled out a mechanical problem. The next thing I did was to replace the "throttle positioner" sensor. No change! The next thing was to check and adjust the timing sensor in the distributor, again no change! Do not know where to go from here. The 2nd. thing is that the speedometer works when it feels like it. No rhyme or reason as to when it will work. If the ambient temperature is cold it may not work, same thing if it is warm. Going fast or slow does not have any effect on it either. I have changed the sender in the transmission to no avail. 3rd. . thing is that when I use my turn signals for turning left or right sometimes the speedometer needle will drop to 0mph and then go immediately go back up to the speed it was last registering. Again no rhyme or reason. Fast, slow, cold, or hot. Any assistance you could offer would be most appreciated. I have a feeling that they all have a common origin. I purchased the Toyota wiring service manual for this truck and have gone over every wire going to the computer and they are all within spec except for the Toyota mistakes. Dennis

Are you shorting the diagnostic terminal when timing?

Flash 319... Thank you for your reply. Yes the diagnostic terminal is shorted when timing the truck. When the diagnostic terminal is shorted the only code thrown is that there is "no problem". The dash light blinks once every second. All the grounds measure .1 or .2 ohms, so I know all the grounds are ok. All the ground points are measured from the ground point back to the negative terminal of the battery. I looked up the ground points in the Toyota electrical manual. Thank you Dennis

Here is an 93 FSM http://www.ether3al.com/93fsm-mobile/

I would try re installing your distributor.

A Timing Video I like Better. Set Crankshaft pulley to 5 degrees.

Does the idle drop when you short the diag? If not your tps sensor is not ajusted properly. When the throttle is closed there is a set of contacts that closes in the tps. The bottom 2 pins i believe. If this does not happen your ecu will not go to base timing.
