22re e85??
So i did a search and found conflicting info on whether or not e85 will eat the seals in my fuel system. anyone have any solid info on this?? i did get a CEL for a short moment, and idling seams a bit worse, but once it's running its ok...

I know that you can't even buy kits to convert toyotas to E85, but I never thought that that could mean they have always worked with Ethonal.... Wonder if there are toyotas in Brazil?

an engine doesn't care what fuel it burns -- there aren't that many seals in the fuel system, either. other than the rubber lines, the only real "seals" are the o-rings on the fuel injectors.

Ethanol is corrosive I would be more concerned with the metal components of your fuel system than the seals.

Alcohol based fuels like E85 require a richer combustion mixture than gasoline. The fuel injection may not like it. Also, because E85 has a lower energy content, your fuel mileage will drop 25% or so. There's also the problem with the alcohol attacking rubber and plastic components in the fuel system that were not intended to be exposed to alcohol. Electric fuel pumps also have problems with alcohol becuase alcohol attracts water. Then there's corrosion issues with the aluminum cylinder heads and intake manifolds. These issues should be less of a problem for newer vehicles, but older ones may suffer.

ethanol can eat cheap rubber seals. It should also be noted that most of the country is already using 10% ethanol as MTBE has been phased out as a fuel additive.
