22re cam

ok you know i got this truck with a blowed up motor. the guy i got it from said they had just had redone before the motor blew. and you can tell the cam is new, it has no wear at all. so i got motor rebuilt and put it in. it's had a lope ever since i cranked it up. it was throwin a tps and o2 sensor code. i got those fixed. now it has no codes and still has this lope. the rpms jump bout 50 rpm's. whats the chances of them puttin a bigger cam in it? also it has no cat and no muffler, yes a straight pipe with a o2 sensor in it. i can't hear any vacum leaks. is it a bigger cam or something else wrong? if i remember right on the end of the cam where the timing gear goes there was a number, something like 2386. thanks

On a 22RE, it would take a fairly radical cam (high lift or duration or strange overlap) to cause a significant lope in the idle. 4cyl cam and combustion events happen about 15-20% more often than a v8 (explaing why a v8 idles at 600-650 and our I4's idle at about 750-800), so if it sounds like a v8, there is something strange going on.

I'd verify the valve adjustments, the idle speed and ignition timing were correct before going anywhere else.

i've checked all that except valves. i did set valves on 8 and 12 but it was cold. i done it on the engine stand when i built the motor. and still when i cross them terminals it almost kills the motor and it still has a lope with terminals jumped.

another thing i had to replace the tps when i put it on i put the ohm meter on bottom 2 terminals, then adjusted it till it first got contiuity is that correct way of setting it?

the tps should be close enough to work fine. cold valves should be about .007 and .010-.011 cold. .008 and .012 is the warm spec, and for many, should be on the tight side of the adjustment.
Cam has been checked and is timed properly?
