22re break in procedure

Just wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks to make sure the engine is properly broken in. Right now all I really have to follow is the haynes manual. also, what oil should i use? tis is my first time rebuilding an engine, and id prefer not to have to get into it again for a good while.

When I got my longblock from Sunwest he told me to run just regular 10w-40, and thats what I did, I didn't have any problems.

As for break in, I just drove it like I normally do.

I'm at 20K miles to far.

When I broke my new engine in I just used 10w-40, and drive it normally and then changed the oil about 100 miles after the rebuild.

yeah from what I've seen, theres not really anything special to do. ted from engnbldr.com told me to run it at 1500-2000 rpms till its warm, take it for a brisk drive, and its broken in. I've driven about 150 miles and i can't believe how clean the oil is. it looks brand new when i pull the dipstick. before the rebuild it would be dark brown after that amount of time

Remember to re-torque the head bolts at 500 miles and I think at 1000 also.

Change the oil at 500 also, not sure if it should be done sooner.

From what I've read running synthetic doesn't allow the engine to break in properly so run regular oil during break in.

alot of ppl think to "break" an engine in, you have to be easy on it; this is not true, driving easy on a new engine will cause the rings not to seat and the cylinder walls to glaze. The only way to break in a new engine is to run it hard the first couple of miles with little idling. Do short bursts of acceleration then deceleration, acceleration then deceleration, etc....
