I swaped the head last night with a known good one.

I has very heavy deposits on all four pistion tops and combustion chambers.
Its surprising how well it runs after looking at the spark plugs. They also have heavy deposits.

It smokes quite heavily at startup and on lifting the throttle. particlularly noticable below 30 mph as it dosn't disapate as fast.

The intake runners were very wet. Ontop of the old crude you would expect from a 14-15 year old motor.

id talk to the guy ur dad got it from and get a receipt, or at least find out where it was done, and go talk to them. if theyre a good reputable shop, then most likely they will fix it, if they offer a warranty(all engien rebuild shops do for at least like 60,000 miles or somethin like that). thats a LOT of oil... mine doesnt even burn that bad.. whoa!

Need to do a compression test....I suspect block problems now that you have installed a known good head. I think you are experiencing lots of blow by from cylinder problems.

Shops screw up from time to time. I have heard of the wrong piston and/or ring sizes being installed in rebuilt engines. Rings get broken during install.

Do a compression test and report back.

better to do a leak down test.. compression wont tell you much...but might give you somewhat of a clue.

I believe for a non turbo'd 22RE standard compression is 171 and minimum of 128. I've also heard 172-175 is 'normal' of-the-lot compession but from what I know if it falls anywhere below 130 you might want to check things out. I got a compression test done and was 170psi all four cyl with 323XXXkms.
