22re ac retrofit problem

Haven't ran my ac since last summer. Was missing the bracket for the idler pulley. got the pulley installed and went to turn the ac on and compressor would not kick on. Checked to make sure it hadnt locked up. Pushed in on one of the valves on the compressor and there was no pressure. So i figured it had leaked out somewhere. I changed the fittings on the compressor and tried to recharge the system. It only took a couple oz's and the gauge shot up to red, and the compressor kicked off. Now the ac gets some what cold but the compressor will only kick on when its idled up or im driving, and it will not take any more freon. Is this bc I didnt pull a vaccum on the system? Clog in the system somewhere? Ive also heard the valves in the compressor have to be changed when you change it to 134? What do ya'll think ?

There is an ac amplifier adjustment up under the glovebox on passenger side. I can't remember if you have to remove the glovebox to get to it or not, but it's a little knob you can turn to basically adjust when the AC compressor will kick on.

are you a certified technician?

Low pressure connection is at the a/c compressor inlet (or somewhere nearby)
High pressure connection is near the a/c accumulator / condenser (or somewhat nearby).
Discharge from your containers so tap is up- container is down.
