My 1987 pickup with a 22r is making an engine sound that sounds like valve chatter but I pulled the valve cover and the valves are adjusted perfectly. It only makes the noise when the motor is warm and it doesn't do it at idle. As soon as it gets to probably around 1200 rpm It starts making the sound. Definitely a metal on metal tapping noise or something. Any ideas? Doesn't do it at all when the motor is cold.

 

Timing chain slap?

 

that's what I thought but I looked and there isn't much slack in the chain and the guides look ok. I'm just crossing my fingers that it's not a bearing

 

Here's the driver side guide. Good condition. Chain has hardly any slack. Other side looks good to

 

Possibly some kind of pinging?

 

it sounds more like a knock to me now. I have a video I'm trying to figure out how to post. New to the forum
