Post 22R-E help please

So I recently rebuilt my 93 22R-E used an engnbldr street rv head with the 268 torkr cam along with his gasket set, pistons, timing chain kit and water pump. I got it all back together it started fairly easily had a few leaks fixed them now I'm driving the truck again. I've put about 120 miles on it so far and there's a few things I'm not too happy with. First is the idle surge. The truck did this before and I believe it to be the tps. Afm was replaced don't really know if that helped anything or not. Second is that it gets pretty hot like 3/4 of the way to the red on the temp gauge before the thermostat opens and it goes to less than half way on the temp gauge. Everything has been replaced in the cooling system. Last of all is that the motor seems to tick pretty loud. I did a valve adjustment when it first started up I'm wondering if I should do another one or is it just the brand new head? This is the first motor I've ever built and I feel as if I didn't skip on anything when doing it. So if anyone has any suggestions or anything for that matter that would help please throw it out. Thanks in advance to everyone here on yotatech.

as far as the ticking goes, i know the injectors are rather noisy.....i guess you should try to pin-point that one so as to know which direction to go.

by far, i am no expert.

did you follow proper procedure for valve adjustment?

as far as the temp thing....overheating, i believe is what led to all my problems.....on that note , and following recommendations from YOTATECH and 4crawler's site, i purchased a dual valve thermostat....part # 9091603070 is $25.96 from www.trdparts4u.com supposedly it is essentially "always" open to some extent and allows some flow through at all times to prevent overheating due to thermostat failure.

the surging problem, or loping as i imagine, i have read enough times as to want to believe the TPS is the issue, but that is something beyond me and someone far more qualified and experienced would have to chime in about.

i know that all is not very helpful....so good luck.

I used the fsm for valve adjustment so I believe I did it right. Ill try that thermostat probally couldn't hurt and the tps seems pretty confusing as to weather I can adjust mine or should I buy a new one. Thank you

If you adjusted the valves to factory spec on the 268 cam they will clatter a bit. Try 7 on the intake and 9 on the exhaust.
