22R Cylinder Head - Recommendations needed

Hello everyone, the time has come to do the head gasket and since the truck is old and beat up anyway we are just going to put a whole new head on it. For those of you that have bought a new head, where did you get it from and what were the results? I'm seeing a lot of different companies offering cylinder heads. Price isn't really an issue, I just need complete and quality.

Thanks!

LC Engineering or 22re performance. I have personally used the LC head and it worked perfectly.

Installed an ENGINETECH CH1072N complete cylinder head 14 months ago on my 92 pickup with 22RE. So far it's been doing fine. RockAuto has it for $252.79.

I did use a Toyota head gasket.

Did either of you get a new camshaft as well?

The Enginetech was a bolt on complete, and yes it included a cam.

I think this is what I’ll be going with. Price is appealing and you having no issues for 14 months sounds great. Did you get a head gasket from rock auto as well?

I got the Toyota head gasket from Amazon. They are pricey.

The first one Amazon shipped me was made in Japan. It was packaged fine no package damage. Inspected both sides of the gasket, and there was a defect in one of the metal fire rings. Called Amazon, and they sent me another Toyota gasket over night that looked exactly like the other one, but it was made in Thailand. It's been doing fine so far, and no I did not re-torque it.

Gotcha, thanks. I just ordered the complete enginetech Head, enginetech Head kit (all the gaskets), and head bolts. The enginetech head gasket is apparently thicker than OEM so that should be nice! Thanks for the recommendation, with the rockauto discount I had I only spent a little over $300 all said and done. With warranty too!

The head gasket that comes in the Enginetech kit is over sized. It's meant for a head that has been resurfaced. The head you bought is a new casting cylinder head, so you don't need an oversize gasket or shim.

I installed a new timing kit too. The cam sprocket/chain was really tight when I installed it, which is a good thing because of initial chain stretch run in. If I had used an over sized gasket, I don't think I could have gotten it installed.

The head gasket that comes with the Enginetech head gasket kit looks like a slipper plate design which is what the Toyota gasket uses now. I would not be afraid to run down to my local parts house, and buy a Fel-Pro updated flange head gasket. All the auto parts stores around here keep them in stock. If you buy online from Advance Auto, you can use a 25% discount code, and pick up at store.
