To anyone that has a 22R (not 22RE) with a functioning A/C compressor; when the compressor is engaged does it cycle on and off, or stay engaged until the switch is turned off? The A/C on my truck doesn't cycle on and off, but works great nonetheless.

It may or may not cycle, depending on the refrigerant used and status of the charge, as well as the air temperatures both internal to the cab and external to the condenser.


So, no need to bump your post. If it works, don't complain, particularly after > 6 years of being a Yotatech member.

It hasn't worked for the 6 + years that I've been a member, it's worked for about a week. Maybe think of things like that before leaving a rude post.

Or maybe someone should think of the most likely, most common solutions prior to asking a question then bumping it up because someone feels ignored and hasn't considered other people may have more important things to do than answer a post that has apparently, obviously, already been resolved. ... maybe?

Now, the compressor may or may not cycle, and this is because the amplifier may or may not see pressures that could cause it to cycle the compressor. If the high side pressure does not get high enough, the compressor may remain on. If the high side pressure does get sufficiently high, the compressor may turn off. You are more likely to see compressor cycling with a fully functional and properly charged R12 system or a properly installed HCFC134A system retrofit than some aftermarket kits. Some may have changed the expansion valve / orifice and condenser so that it is more effective and efficient than the typical autopart store retrofit kit and others may not.

With some 'gunk' that is likely to have accumulated after several years of inoperation, I'd question things, but I'd go in to the question arena knowing as many answers as possible.

My 88's AC on a 22re would cycle, but that is substantially dependent on the ambient temperature, as in if it were warmer outside it would cycle less, if at all and below 80F outside it cycled often.
