22r/22re block question

Okay. I know there isn't (I don't think so anyway) a difference between these blocks. But on the block it is clearly stamped 22R...now...is it supposed to say 22R-E? Mostly because I would like to know if it is the original engine in the truck. Is there anyway to verify it? Or maybe there is some code that corresponds with the engine/vin?

Thanks

I believe they all (of that vintage) say the same .. whether 22re or 22r ..

they are all 22R series blocks .

I'm not going to search for you but there is a difference in the older shorter block and the later taller block. I beleive that is the only version differences.

the early 22r blocks(82-84) are taller than the late(85-95) and are not compatable.
this is a newer block on the bottom center where the mickey mouse ear thing is lol

They did have 22r's until 87, but yes in 85 they made the blocks shorter(height wise) and longer (length wise)

The block will always be labeled with the basic engine designation, and nothing more. Any additions (like electronic fuel injections) will not be mentioned in the block casting.

All 22R motors, (22R, 22R-E, 22R-TE, early model, or late model) have 22R stamped on the block. Just like all 7M motors (7M-GE, 7M-GTE) say 7M on the side, or how all 2JZ motors (2JZ-GE, 2JZ-GTE, 2JZ-FSE) say 2JZ on the side
