Have someone build it for you using universal exhaust bends and tubing.
Get a larger silencer from the scrapyard etc.
Should be a lot less expensive than a new turbo.....

omg sorry i had a retard moment there, it just so happens that there is an exhaust shop just down the road from me!, and they have a skip outside which is always full of exhaust systems , twin mufflers, quad mufflers, single muffler, all kinds of stuff, just rusting away, might go "salvage" some parts, its not stealing if its in the bin right ? lol

The only problem being is that they are all going to be the wrong shape... can you re-shape exhaust tubing with simple tools ?

You will need a grinder and a welder for sure.

If you do it before the turbo swap you would loose torque.
And if you keep the stock exhaust with the turbo setup it would limit top end power and cause the engine to run hot.

Damn. That's no good. I really can't afford a whole new exhaust system and my arc welder wont weld exhaust tubing together (just melts through it).
Is there a method to using an arc welder on exhausts or will I need a tig welder ?
Thanks

You'll need TIG or MIG for an exhaust.
I used clamp style universal pipes and bends several times, but you still need a welder sometimes for the flanges, brackets and so on.
I don't see a way to work around that....
Can't rent one for a day or two?

Hmm im not sure i dont think so, but if i can get hold of heaps of 3" exhaust would it be possible to kind of slid peices inside eachother and clamp them together ? or would they just fall apart?
thanks for all the quick replies

That will not work, regardless of how you do it, you will need a welder at some point. I've had 5 hilux diesels, trust me, i know for sure.

Getting there good work. Make sure you put a Pyromomiter (EGT) gauge on it.

Time to hook up the turbo's life lines (oil + water)
IMG_0014.jpg?t=1292494478
Turbo oil feed from existing feed on the block, its like toyota wanted you to fit a turbo.....hmmmm.
IMG_0018.jpg?t=1292494576
My nice new stainless steel braided hoses and 100psi oil/ water piping.
IMG_0016-1.jpg?t=1292494652
My oil return, i used a T to tap into the alternater return, its a tight fit but it should work.
IMG_0019.jpg?t=1292494794
Now for the water cooling.
IMG_0015-1.jpg?t=1292494881
IMG_0020.jpg?t=1292494927
IMG_0023-1.jpg?t=1292494961
Turbo finally fitted and bolted down, all i need to do now is get the damn exhaust to fit and get some air piping and shes good to go.

Yo, if you can get the smaller sticks for your arc welder, and turn the amps WAYYY down, you might be able to tack weld up an exhaust. It'd be like doing sheetmetal though.. Tack it a few times, then let it cool.

Thanks, i got my dad to do it, as much as i hate to admit it, he's good, worked perfectly and is smooth and concistant.
Got it all finished today and started it for the 1st time in weeks, but oil is coming out the turbo turbine, not alot, but a few drops are forming :S, its worrying because i dont have the crank case breather going into the inlet, which means the oil is coming from the turbo itself its brand new !!!! better not be broken or leaking or ill die!
