yeppers.
A 3F is a de-stroked 2F... And the E, well I forgot what that means
You put a 2F under a 3Fe head so you get a stroker EFI setup.
Yew asked fer it!

Yew asked fer it! Nobody said adjust the base timing (mod) and 2Fe...
But I guess with a power post every 5 minutes, some things tend to slip between the cracks...
When will you guys learn the 3Fe is a de-stroked 2F. I'm sure Toyota did that b/c the 2F was too stroked and in a non overdrive transmission. But neglected to discover they didn't need to in an overdrive transmission.
All Toyota manual trannys that I know of had a 250rpm drop IF they had an overdrive.
ALL Toyota AUTOMATICS had a 500rpm drop into overdrive...
Clearly you DO NOT need a de-stroked motor if your overdrive is deep enough...
Chiltons repair manual, for 70-88 trucks says the 2F has:
...............2f.... 125hp @ 3600rpms and 200 ft/lbs torque at 1800rpm.
Now the 3Fe... 154hp @ 4500rpms and 220 ft/ lbs torque at 3000rpms... see the difference?
Now take the 22R and Re... Both are identical motors except for the EFI.
22R is 96hp @ 4800 and 129 ft/ lbs @ 2800rpm
22RE 116hp @ 4800 and 140 ft/ lbs at 2800rpm...
So take the % in power difference, divide that by 4 and you get a % gain that EFI ALONE, makes PER-Cylinder. Now multiply that by 6 and add that to the 2F's power and see what you get.
That SHOULD be the theoretical improvement EFI ALONE makes to a 2F engine...

well if it's plywood or sheet material you want to haul, sorry to burst your bubble but they're not gonna lay flat in any toyota pickup except for the full size models and maybe the 2nd gen tacoma since it's no longer a mini truck - the wheel wells are too narrow and your nice flat sheet has to either sit at an angle or get propped up on something so it clears (I use a few 2x4s angled to the top of the tailgate). even if you get a 1st gen 4runner, you've got the issue of the back seat and the roll bar being in the way of your materials...and only 2 doors...and no solid axle...no cushy interior...
if it were me, i'd explore these possibilities first: ultra HD roof rack for the 80, buy a trailer, rent a trailer when you need it, $1000 beater pickup/22re.
as for your 80's gas mileage - that's just the price you've gotta pay for a badass rig! dunno how important full-time is to you, but i've heard the part-time conversion helps out in the fuel economy department, but then turns your LC into...well...not a LC.
x2 on never trading an 80 for a 4runner....UNLESS....4runner has diesel or v8 swap and is fairly unmolested and in great condition.

Using the info you gave me I came up with 160.62 HP for a 2F-E, assuming I did the math correctly. I feel, as much as I hate to say it, that either a Chevy 350 or a Cummins 6BT would be more worthwhile

oh, no doubt. But then there's the level of complexity to convert, that stuff's not just gonna fall in, and be free... And from a purists standpoint.
It's not like a 2F is unreliable...
Hey, OP. Check it... It's not finished, so don't get too exited

Mitsubishi 4D34-3AT3B diesel swap into 94 FZJ80
Should be @ 20 with a lift and tire. 20+ stock.
And I have a feeling those #'s are greatly under exaggerated.
Should get 25 with stockish wheels, but then you'd be right at red-line.
With a lift and rubber tire overdrive, you'd have more load. I say more like 22-23MPG.
Just guessing though. Though the FJ80 is a FAR cry from a box truck.
