1999 cd player in 95 4runner?

My friend has the stock cd/casette player out of his 99 4runner. he is gonna sell it to me MAD CHEAP for my 95 4runner with the stock 3 disc cd changer and i just wanted to know if they are interchangeable or if i could just buy a new adapter for the back and splice it into my stock one?

If the radio you are buying is OEM, and you still have your factory harness intact, then you shouldn't have any issues.

There are 3 different plugs toyota uses. The first and by far the most common, is the 1761 where there are two separate plugs. The next least common is the 8112/8113. Vehicles with this plug have a factory amp (usually right behind the radio). Worthy of note is that vehicles with this amp have a 1761 plugged in under the OEM amp...so if you pull out the 1761 and plug into that, you have effectively bypassed the OEM amp. And lastly is a plug that metra hasnt made an integration harness for yet. Only the JBL systems and very late model toyotas use em.

Most likely you wont have an issue.

took me all of 30 minutes. hardest part was takin apart the dash. all the stock brackets worked and thanks to bumpins advice, the plug that ran into the stock amp fit perfectly into the back of the new cd player. everything looks perfect and plays alot better then my old one and u cant beat the price of FREE. i love toyota. me happy.

Im going to have to take a few pics of the next few toyotas to come in so I can show off the plugs and what fits them for the electronics section.

Good info

The stock radio in my 95 is having issues--this sounds like a good way to fix it.

i was just suprised how easy it was to do. 4 years and toyota kept all the same brackets, plugs and everything. my friend just gave me his stock cd player so that helped out to. my stock one worked fine but after a slight act of aggresion it ceased to work, so a replacement was needed.
