1997 22R Carb Issues

Hi everyone, my first time posting here. Sorry to just drop in with all the questions. If anyone can help me with these issues I’d be forever great full.

MY SETUP:
1997 4x4 Double Cab. 22R. Engine was completely overhauled with stock standard components 1000Km (600mil) ago. Performance wise it feels good. Obviously I can’t push it too much as I’m still busy breaking it in. From what I can hear it doesn’t idle erratically (maybe jumps up and down at most around 50rpm) but being a bit obsessive I think it can do better. The issue is fuel consumption, around 5.5Km p/l (13mil p/g). When I first got the vehicle 11 years ago I used to get around 7.5 – 8.5Km p/l (18 – 20mil p/g). A few years back it started getting heavier on juice. I thought once the engine was overhauled I’d get the better mileage again, but no luck. I know it’s running a bit rich as I can smell it faintly from the exhaust. I have also tried using one of those digital exhaust gas gauge/instruments but can’t figure out what reading it should give as the manual was clearly translated from Chinese to English and the Haynes workshop manual for my vehicle doesn’t have any info on it. The measurement drops from 2.0 (calibration setting from outside clean air) to around -3.0 (tube placed in exhaust). Any ideas on this?

CARB:
This vehicle is not equipped with an EGR valve or charcoal canisters and has a blanking plate on the manifold where the EGR hose would go. I checked with the local dealers and it seems to be correct for my model. All the other tubes and pipes are still there accept for the “idle up diaphragm” I cannot find a tube that is supposed to go on there. It also doesn’t seem to have any suction or vacuum on it when idling or revving the engine. The main issue here is when setting the AIR MIXTURE SCREW I get the highest idle at 4 – 4.5 turns out. Turning the IDLE SCREW out about 4 – 5 turns I get 800rpm. This is the lowest I can get and turning it out more does nothing. Turning it in again does however increase the idle speed. What would be causing this?

OIL PRESSURE:
What should the correct oil pressure be? I use an aftermarket wet gauge. I get with 20w50 – 2 bar at idle (850rpm) then increases to about 4 – 4.5 bar at 2500 - 3000rpm and with 10w40 – 1.4 bar at idle (850rpm) then increases to about 4 – 4.5 bar at 2500 - 3000rpm. I just replaced the oil last night with 10w40. Our normal summer time temp is around 32 – 37 (90 – 98)

Once again sorry for all the questions.

Do you mean 1987?

If not, I have never heard of a 22r going into a vehicle that new, some pics would be sweet.

As for your fuel mileage, check the easiest things first, such as fuel filter, air filter, Etc. I'm sure you have, but just throwing it out there.

The 22R motor was used up to 1998 in the Hilux pick ups. You guys had it in the Surfs and the UK used to call it the four runners.

The rest has been replaced, the motor was recently overhauled and everything was replaced.

I bet the float is sticking, or is set too high. Or there is debris in the float valve. Either way I think you got carb issues.

I get 18mpg around town, and just got 27mpg highway only (may be a fluke). It could also be that the brakes are dragging or something in the driveline has increased resistance.
