just make sure you get them in all the way during assembly.

yes, i added Asins (sp) when i got it, but for the first 190K miles it had just the flanges and ADD. i'm guessing that's why all the wear, since it would seem hard to wear out the front diff otherwise.

i am going to put on the new carrier bearings that came with the kit. hopefully all will mesh properly without redoing the pinion. then i can just sell the remaining parts, since it seems like the little needle bearings are the cause of the slop.

i also noticed that the spider gears are kind of loose fitting, but i'm just gonna pretend i didn't see that. tomorrow i need to go down the hill, so i'm gonna see if the toyota dealer has the bearings.

 

the spider gears have more backlash than the r&p.

the pattern shouldn't change if you didn't mess with the pinion side of things. just make sure you put the original shims back where they were and check the backlash and you should be good to go!

 

went to the dealer and the parts guy said they never sell any of those bearings, but can order them (part # 90364-33009) and they are $60.39 + tax each

so i'm just gonna put it back together and wait for the front diff to self destruct.

People throw away stock front IFS units with 4.10 gears. I have junked 2 or 3 of them. I imagine you could pick up one from a street-only driven truck and either run it or scavenge parts from it.
