1995 4Runner 3.0 vze engine from hell!!! help
HI guys. i have 1995 TOYOTA 4RUNNER with 192,000 miles on it. I bought it with 120,000. It had a shift problem when i bought it, replaced temp sensor twice, flushed transmission ,had a oxygen sensor code I replaced it also. Finally hooked it up to a Snap-On MT2500,saw temp was fluctuating when wire to temp sensor was touched.Hunted down the wire found a lame attempt to splice with solder. I clipped out the bad splice stripped the ends put a heat shrink wire crimp connector that fixed it,several months later distributor went i replced that ,also a coil, total tuneup when i bought the 4RUNNER (plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, lube, oil, filter)recently i replaced the driveshaft it was ou of balance an couldnt be repaired.I have done oil changes every including oil filter every 3,000 miles since i bought it,sometimes i changed oil& filter every 2500 miles.
The day before a trip to Maine ,went out an checked all fluids for the trip and started the 4Runner up and ou of nowhere i had a really bad knock.Wound up renting a jeep commander to go on the trip.
When i got back i took my 4RUNNER to a local Toyota yard that does service work.Well that was a month ago and still i am waiting for my 4RUNNER,They have tried two separate engines and both have been bad. If i only knew more about engine replacement and wiring diagrams and had a lil more money at the moment id definitely do a 3.4 swap.I have already spoken to Andy Zook who lives near me in Lancaster, Pa.I love my 4RUNNER and just want to get back on the darn road.GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Thanx for listening to mw whine

im sorry to hear about your problems,
i know what its like when you think your getting your truck fixed then something else comes up
it never ends sometimes
the 3.4l swap is popular you can def. do alot of searching and lot of learning
thats how i did my lift, and did my engine work
just keep lookin around might be able to do it yourself!
i personally wanna do the 2JZ-GTE swap
but that is just a dream =D

The 3.4 swap is definitely worth it. I did mine with zero knowledge about swaps before and Andy was a hell of a nice guy and a whole lotta help. It makes the Runner...uh...funner...
Forget that last part.

Engines are the same. Some electrical connectors are different a 94 engine should drop right in and bolt right up no problem. As for the knocking sounds like a rod bearing got destroyed. Used motors are a bit sketchy, because you dont have a history in that engine. Definitely do the 3.4 swap when you have the money, if thats the option you want to persue. I have a 3.0 in mine and it still does great.
