1994 steering stops

On the 1994 4Runner 3vze. Where is the steering stops located? What do they look like? Any pics?

I have a noise when making right or left turns. It sounds like something grinding, skipping. the noise is intermitten. Sometimes it does not make any noise on turns.

I want to try and fix it myself before I have a mechanic check it.

Thanks for any assistance ...

Do a search. You'll find some pics. Just smear some grease on the stops and the noise will stop. No need to take it to a mechanic.

Just poke your head in the wheel well and you will see the "pins" that hit the stops. Gota smear some grease on em now and then. Ever 6 months or so.

For those of you in wet climates I found antisieze lasts longer than grease on the steering stops. It doesn't seem to wash away as quick.

oh wait... now that i read that again... are you saying makeing the turning radius smaller! (thus the use of the word reduce) :pat:

anyway if your talking about makeing sharper turns i dont think that works because the CVs bind expecially when flexed

Also, don't worry about it. These steering stops were a faulty design and always make horrendous noises that get you funny looks. Just grease it, that is all you can do.

Mine were cut off before I bought my truck. I have never had a problem, and never hear any noise at full lock. I am not necessarily advise this, maybe somebody else will chime in the pros and cons.

Found them and greased them. The caps are there but the tips of it are gone. No more noise for a while. Thanks ...

That's usually what happens, the tips contact the steering stops and wear out. Just keep them lubed and it'll be quieter.

Has any body bought the new caps? If so where and are they worth it. I drive on a dirt road daily and I'm sure that the grease will get full of dirt and rocks.

Mine make that noise all the time. I'm just to lazy to grease them. I have done it a few times. It is really funny when you are in a parking lot and making a tight turn near other cars and they start making noise. People give you some funny looks.

i was missing two complete stops, rubber on the others and when i went in checked and found out you can't just get the caps anymore. new replacements were brass. work fine with grease.
