1993 toyota pickup 4x4...is it worth it?
I have the opportunity to buy a 1993 toyota pickup single cab 4x4 with manual trans 170k on clock with rebuilt motor that has 35 miles on it. They are asking $2000. But the catch is part of the engine wiring harness in the dash melted and needs to be replaced. Question is it worth $2000 and how hard is it to find a wiring harness and how hard would it be to replace. Thanks in advance

Pray tell just what engine??
Define rebuilt ?? It can mean so many different things to different people
This melt down did it also include the ECU/ECM??
What is the rest of the Truck like??
Good Tires ??
Frame and body for rust??
Brakes Suspension ??
What is your goal here Project truck something to do ??
You would need to find out just what was melted and figure out from there.
The big question is just what caused this to happen and what other damage has to be revealed .
I myself think it is way to much to pay unless the rest is perfect.
As this could turn into a garage queen money pit real quick.
Wiring harness
Used will most likely be your only option or build one from scratch.

22re 4 cyl motor. Rebuilt all moving internals, new tires, not much rust at all. Yea it does make me nervous that it melted the harness and why it melted. I dont know the full extent of damage to wiring but i was wondering if it was something i could piece together instead of replacing whole thing. Im pretty sure ECM is good just wiring in dash. Im assuming ignition wiring. I know these trucks sell for around 4000-6000 around here but it still seems high not being able to start it

Does everything work? Which parts of the wiring is melted. I wouldn't buy anything that has been "rebuilt" especially with low miles on the rebuild. That's just me. Would you trust someone's rebuild when your in the middle of no where?

Very true guys. I think im going to pass on this one. Too much unknown and it is just weird to me that 35 miles after "rebuild" the harness wires melt. Prob more problems than its worth. Thanks guys. Sometimes you just need to hear voice of reason

The rig may be ok for a project, but would take a lot of work and proving to be considered "reliable", IMO.

Who can say only being up close and personal will tell the story.
It is worth only what the potential buyer thinks it might be worth.
To me a melted engine harness makes me wonder what else may be done wrong waiting to explode.
