1993 22RE poor fuel mileage
I have a 93 toyota truck with a 22re and 4x4. At it's best im getting 270 miles out of a tank.....that's just under 20mpg. The engine seems to run pretty smooth but at the exhaust there's a little hiccup. Also I just noticed the manifold is glowing hot! Help please!!!

If your exhaust manifold is glowing red hot that usually means a plugged catalytic converter. That will decrease mpg. 18-20 mpg is pretty standard for 22re/4x4.

For starters what size tires are you running? A bigger tire makes the motor work harder so it causes less gas mileage. Some things you can do to get more power and some better gas mileage is a Cold Air Intake that will show you a big improvent and give you a few extra miles. a good set of spark plugs. Id say E3s. they help burn the gas better and make the engine run better. I hope this helped you.

It really just depends. 20 is GREAT!
i have a header cold air intake and 33s. and got 15-16 on the free way.
And tires dont have THAT big of a difference.
