1990 rear shackle quesitons

Hey guys,

This topic has probably been covered 100 times but I have not been able to find anything on here about it. I have a 1990 reg cab short bed 4x4 with a 22re and 5 speed. The prior owner extended the rear shackles with some plate metal welded to the outside of them to make them 5.5" long (3.5" stock)... I don't like how he did it and would rather buy some new shackles and get rid of these since I don't think they are safe or done right.

My problem is the only 5.5" or 6" shackles I have found are the same width on top and bottom and my shackles are wider at the frame than at the spring. This is a stock truck and I don't want to swap out springs and all of that stuff since it is just my daily driver.

Are there any 5.5" or 6" shackles that will fit right on my truck?

What is wrong with the ones you have ??

Are they broken now???

So your saying you want Spring Shackles that will give you 5.5" or 6" lift.

you can`t make your own or you would have.

draw what you want go to your local welding /Fabrication shop have some made.

I would guess you have exhausted all other search options.

The ones I have were cut and sections of metal welded in and I do not like how it is done or think it is safe, that is why I am looking into new ones. Stock shackles are 3.5" and these have been lengthened to about 5.5", I am look for some that are 5.5" to 6" in length, that would keep my truck the same height it is now. I have thought about a local machine shop but thought I would see what is out there that I could buy ready to go.

Yeah those definitely don't look safe. I know there are available shackles with the offset bend you're looking for - I think marlin crawler sells some and OME makes some too as well as others. Otherwise, the straight versions will work and they usually have a spacer of some sort to compensate the offset widths. Try googling offset toyota shackles and look at pics, that's how I usually find what I'm looking for.

From your pictures I can understand Your concern.

Pretty easy to have them made the correct way.

I take it you checked all the manufactures of lift kits for your truck.

I don`t get into the whole lift kit thing so there very well might be something to spend money on.

I would get them made local that way you know just what your getting.

I didn't think about using the spacers, I will have to check into that. I want to keep the longer shackles since the truck sits level with them. I don't want to use blocks because I'm already going to have these shackles out and would rather spend the money just on that rather than by shackles and blocks and have to buy new u bolts also. Thanks for the input guys
