1990 4runner front crossmember
Folks,
I'm new to this website and in fact I'm happy to see there are other fanatical Toyota owners out there besides me. I own a 1990 4wd 6 cyl rust colored 4runner. The front cross member on the frame has quickly rusted almost all of the way through (in the past couple of months). It's more of a weekend warrior vehicle so I haven't given it proper attention recently.
My question is, how difficult would it be to replace it myself? Does anyone recommend a frame parts store or website? Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am not a grease monkey by nature and I am limited on tools. Thanks!

i'm assuming you're talking about the front crossmember that the front diff bolts onto? go to/call up junkyard and get a used crossmember. for install, spray everything down with penetrating oil, loosen up the front diff bolt as well as the 4 crossmember mounting bolts. place jack under front diff and raise it up just enough to take pressure off of bolts. remove crossmember - a BFG and a prybar might help. install is reverse. i believe torque for front diff bolt is somewhere around 150#. i'd use loctite on all of them, too.

Are you refering to the front crossmember with the factory holes right behind the bumper/valance? If so, I don't know what to tell you. I cut mine out and welded in a heavier square tube...
