1990 3.0 a/c
Hey guys I have 1990 Toyota pickup with the 3.0 in it. It looks as if it would have came with the AC equipped but did not. I have called a few different places to get a pricing on a complete A/C system. I can get a lot with the following parts: compressor, expansion valve, condenser, evaporator and oil for a total of $555. I will still need to buy hoses, brackets and freon. What I am not sure about is whether or not these trucks come equipped with all of the wiring (harnesses) already in the truck. Does anyone know if they do come stock with these just not the full A/C system for whatever reason? Thanks, any help will be appreciated!

I added factory A/C to my '91 4Runner about 15 years back. It was not that difficult to do, just fiddly and time consuming. The hardest part is putting together a complete list of everything you need. Most of the wiring is in the factory harness on the 4Runner, except for some pigtails that extended from connectors to A/C components, also the relay box, dashboard switch and several other valves and relays.
Unless you have a reliable source for parts that can put together the whole package, you really need to comb through the FSM mechanical and electrical reference sections and definitely spend some time looking at and taking pictures of the A/C install on an identical truck.
I sent a very detailed list to a well known parts recycler in CA and the first shipment they sent was a total disaster. The aluminum tubing was bent beyond usability, the compressor had a cracked mounting flange, the auxiliary fan was rusted out... You get the picture. Fortunately when I sent them a detailed assessment of the crappy first attempt, they stepped up and delivered quality used parts on the second pass.
A project that is definitely worth doing, but it does take patience!
