Question 1988 toyota 4X4 HELP

I just got a another toyota its got the 22re. When you first crank it it will not idle but after it gets warm it is fine. Im thinking it is the cold start injector. Is there any way to check it?

Does that mean it wont start? O.o If the CSI is the problem, it could be or couldn't be, Make sure the wire is connected to the injector and the time switch and you could pull it out and put it in a coffee can or such and turn it over and see if fuel is coming out. Just make sure you keep it away from the battery. .

Check the thermal time switch, if its bad the cold start injector won`t work.

the only thing the cold start injector is supposed to do is add some fuel WHILE YOU ARE CRANKING THE ENGINE to start. after the engine starts, the CSI should be closed since the ECU will enrich the mixture using the normal fuel injectors.

I will not say the CSi isn't part of the problem with cold starts, but like I said, it shouldn't squirt any fuel after the engine is running.

This leads back to the idle air valve under the throttle body not working properly. When cold, say below 65F or so, it should be open letting air around the throttle for a high idle and as the engine warms up the valve closes and the idle lowers in kind. It kind of simulates the choke on a carbureted engine. If it's stuck, it can be compensated for somewhat with other adjustments, but will never run right.
