1988 4runner front windows not working

So i was rolling my driver side window down (after i rolled up it 30 min prior) and it got stuck 2 inches down.

Wouldn't go up or down, passenger stopped too.

I was in a hurry to get someone, so i left it.

Now im looking at it again and i checked all fuses and they check good.

I don't know if im doing it right, but that plug that goes to the window motor on the drivers side, isn't getting power. Im not sure if its supposed to or not.

Im out of things to check and the service manual i have doesn't have trouble shooting for side windows, only back window.

I doubt its motors cause both going at some time is odd. im out away on work and its starting to rain. i got some tools but nothing to crazy.

any help is appreciated. thanks

I bought an ohmmeter too a couple days prior, just open it up now to use it and the damn thing doesn't. just my luck.

Im thinking maybe the Power window circuit breaker on driver side kick panel?

sounds like the relay. its on the passenger side kick panel. i think it says door control or something like that. its a black box with a connector. you have to unbolt the three bolts holding in the computer and its right behind that.

Does the passanger doors seperate switch work the passanger window or just the master switch not working? Door locks work? If its just the switch on the drivers side then its prob the master switch. They wear out... Normally the relays don't go bad unless exposed to weather or damage... but if your not getting 12 volts to the windows... then thats more than likely what it is.

the master switch sticks sometime and its probably seen better days. but it works.

I rolled windows up. Went in mall for 30 minutes. Come out. roll window down and it gets 2 inches down and then stops. and i can't do passenger window either

all fuses are good. everything else that worked before, works now. except for the windows.

i really appreciate your help and fast responses. i really do

Im not familiar with the window circuit, but on the manual windows, the tracks can get really dry and make hard to roll up. Might try lubing them up with the Silicon Spray. It makes a world of difference. I am wondering if your motor is just having to work so hard to ru it up and down.

but both aren't working. both sides. Both sides would not go out at same time.

even then. i would hear a motor clicking, or hitting the motor would give me something.

when both go out at some time and neither switch does something. it tells me its something electrical. just what.

What controls just those. I wish the FSM would give me a pinout for the clip for the power window controls. So i can see which one is supposed to have power and test. Cause when i use test light on the clip that clips into master control, none are getting power. when i ground out the door lock ones they work. but they work on the control

The door control module is what controls your power windows. it is located under the driver's side dash up next to the clutch pedal bracket. it is black and about 3 inches square by about 1 inch thick. it has a circuit board inside. I had to pull mine and repair it about 3 months ago. burned two of the solder runs right off of the board. the things are obsolete and list for about $350. PM me if you need a picture of it.

everything looks clean and good inside. this was the only black box by the clutch petal. exactly as you described. is there some simple stuff i can check

like if the master switch on drivers side is shot. will the passenger one still work?

I forgot the key was in on position in ignition and when i went to plug box back in, the truck made the same sound it makes when you leave the keys in the ignition. that beep sound.

Don't know if that means anything. thought i would share

did you check the circuit breakers under the driver's side kick panel? they can be reset if they have tripped. if you knew someone close to you with the same truck that you could plug that module into you could see if it is bad or not.

thats not what my door control module circuit board looks like. I wonder if they changed it. mine has a molex style connector that connects to one end of the board. you have spade connector terminals. interesting. also mine was not bolted in, it snaps onto a bracket.

Did you ever resolve this? My 86 4Runner is having the same problem.

To elaborate more on mine... at first, my windows were working barely... I'd have to stab the switches and jiggle them to get the window to barely move an inch. I bought a new master switch from Switch Doctor and a corresponding pass side switch.

Switch Doctor switch:

When I plugged in and tried out the new master from switch doctor, I noticed that door unlocked worked fine, but the ds window down button was now locking the door and nothing else worked. My suspicions were confirmed that when I mapped the old wire harness to the new, the pins were all in different places.

I popped all of the pins and reordered them according to the old harness. Now, I only have the power door lock button working. The windows don't work from either the ds or ps doors now (worse than when I started). I pulled all of the fuses and all are good (I don't have an owner's manual and there isn't a window only fuse - so I don't even know which it would be, but all are intact).

I'm afraid I may have fried something (relay?) when the wiring was switched up.

Please help if you can!

Thanks,
Mike

Same problem I had. You fried a couple of solder runs on your door control module. (little black box) i'd put money on it.

Does the relay box control the door locks too? Is the box repairable or do I need to go seeking another one?
