Lightbulb 1988 4Runner 3-VZE 2 questions....

Hey,

i have been wondering how reliable the '88 3-VZE engines are, Are they just as reliable as the 22R-E's?
2nd, What do you think about a FULL dual exhaust, 3cyl = 1 pipe?
Oh and kindof thinking about adding a turbo on them exhaust's (twin turbo) for about 7psi each

Search - there's a number of threads here about what to watch for when turbo'ing a 3VZE (fuel rates, injector duty cycles, air/fuel ratio, ECM mods, etc)

If you do 'true' dual exhausts, you'll have to figure out how to get the input from a second O2 sensor into the ECM info. Thats why most owners, even with headers, plumb both header outlets into a 'Y' pipe where the O2 sensor can measure the gasses from all 6 cylinders. The 3.0 is not a huge displacement engine and doesn't really appear to be designed to rev high. So there's not a real need to allow a ton of airflow. I would think that a 2.25 inch Y-pipe-to-cat would be sufficient, and then 2.5 inches the rest of the way back (including muffler). But your thinking 'is' along the right lines. It would help with power. More importantly, it would eliminate the Y-pipe and many of the issues associated with the head design / heat problems on #5 and #6 exhaust valves.

thanks for the info guys!!! think i might leave the dual exhaust untill shes 20 years old (if i do it) because then i wont need to get it Emitions-tested.....as for the dual turbo, i was talking to a friend that has installed turbo's a few times on other cars. and well if i was to do ALL the work myself, get all the parts from the wreckers, it would still cost me about $1500, because i would need performance fuel pump, computer all retuned and a few other things....and well i'm not that rich lol
this runner has 350,xxx kms

Thanks again!

i love this stuff...Yota all the way!
