1987 Pickup Question and Value?

I have an opportunity to buy a red 1987 for $2250 obo. It has 158k on it, with 5k on a rebuilt motor EFI. I'm new to this world. Is there other engine options I'd prefer? It runs great, 4lo and hi work. MINOR rust only on rear right fender. body and bed pretty good (used for sure, dents here and there but straight and no rust otherwise). not leaking anything where it has been parked. its an auto trans normal bed and extended cab. hubs lock, floor boards NO RUST.

I want it bad, but want to see if there are other things i should look for and if its a good deal?

this will be used as an occasional commuter, camping vehicle, moving junk, occasional wheelin' and will remain stock. mostly just a toy Toy

Thoughts?

Thank you very much in advance!

Better take it for a spin first. the 22re backed by an auto is pretty lame in my book. Who did the rebuild and what did they do? Take a look at the tires to see what sort of front end work it might need. pull the carpet back and look for rusty secrets. I used to have an 84 4runner, picked it up for 2300. I needed it so bad that I never really looked at it. It ended up nickle and diming me for about a grand more. I sure do miss that old girl.

here is a pic (if it worked). i did take it for a test drive. it drives straight, t-case works, hubs are good. tires are good. more wear in the front than the rear. can you explain more about what to look for in terms of front end work and what that entails? rear tires are good. even wear and good tread left. its got 31 x 10.5 on it now. i did pull the carpet back and no rusty secrets that i saw. i crawled under the entire thing.

the original engine threw a rod, he had another one put in, the rebuild was terrible and blew 500 miles later. this engine is a rebuilt one ordered from some reputable company (ill have to ask him again for the name) and was put in by a mechanic as he doesn't do any of the work himself.

auto with the 22re was slow - thats certain. i'm not too worried about it although i would prefer a stick. the seller is in a bind to get rid of it so i may come in with a low offer. any other thoughts? i hope the pics work! let me know if i can provide any more info, but unfortunately this is the only pic i have.

thanks guys for the feedback its much appreciated.
