1986 SR5 rear axle.

I was moving across the country in my pickup and my rear wheel bearing went out without me even realizing until it was too late. The axle is shot according to the mechanic that looked at it.

I was wondering what options I might have, as far as newer axles? What years could I pull an axle from that would work?

And are there any after market options worth considering?

I have one from my 1984 Toyota Pickup that I'm looking to get rid of. I'm not sure if it'll fit your truck or not. It's only 2wd.

Anything prior to 86 will be too short. IDK for sure if the 2wd will fit the 4wd. I don't "think" they will. I "think" even the 3.0 V6 axles would fit. I would call Marlin's shop or similar. There are aftermarket ones available but I have never tried them or know anyone that has. Low Range Off Road and other places sell them. They also sell the bearing pocket if yours was damaged. Good luck with it and please follow up after you get it fixed.

Here is the truck info.

It looks like I need a new shaft and assembly (driver side). Dorman makes them but I could only find ones from newer models. Mine is the 6 lug 4WD version, 1986.

It looks like any axle out of 1986-03/89 RN6 (4wd) will work. Left/right are the same. and as AZtoyman thought, 1988 to 3/89 VN(V6) will work.
2wd wouldn't work
I'd get a used oem one if you can

You might find a compatible axle from similar models, 2012-2017.

I know the shaft is probably the same, but I can buy those easily at parts stores. It's the housing that is the problem. I think they changed that in 89 ir 90?
