Thanks Cory, I waited 35 years for a lift, at the shop where I worked during my high school summers I helped them install a lift and I swore I'd have one someday lol. Now I just need to raise the garage door opener a foot or two, that's on my list

Get a wall mount opener, they are way cool

Yea I’m jelly of the lift also, I would love one but I’m far from having the space or
loot to do one.

I'll follow along! Keep up the good work. Your brake line work looks like you took your time. Very nice.

Thanks, the brake line work I've found to be very rewarding, which is good because I'm going to end up replacing every hard line except the ones in the engine bay. From the distribution block to the LSPV + all the rear lines used all but 3" of the 25' roll of brake line I had. Now I need more for the fronts, but I only need like 4' so may try some pre-made lines with the old fittings...not to mention the line I got from Summit is now on back order

Next I am rebuilding the brake calipers, the kits I bought don't have the little o-rings that go between the caliper halves, so I guess I'll just have to find some. I am transitioning to 'while I'm at it' mode with the caliper rebuild and going to look into replacing the ball joints, tie rods, shocks and sway bar end links, which brings me to my next question...'

I want to do a very mild lift maybe 2" and I don't want to lift the IFS as I've read that it causes problems the more you lift it. I've read a little about ball joint spacers, so is there some kind of combination of new leaf springs and ball joint spacers + maybe a 1" body lift (since I'm replacing the body mounts anyway) that will accommodate and have a nice stance with 31" tires? Thinking 31x10.5 but don't want to throw too much rubber at this drivetrain. Staying with original wheels...which are cleaning up really nice! They are stamped 6/85 which further confirms my belief that they are original, 3 months before build date

these wheels look like they have some kind of seam sealer on the inside, don't recall seeing that before

the Left hub selector either doesn't have a spring or the spring is compressed?

after just a couple minutes with a 0000 steel wool pad and a spray bottle of water, not bad!

these backing plates are a rusted out mess, guessing they don't make new ones?

I have the same rusty backing plates. I checked Toyota parts deal, but they were discontinued. Should be pretty easy to get used. I saw a pair on ebay for about $75. My project truck has to show cooperation before i give it anymore gifts. https://www.ebay.com/itm/32541880987...mis&media=COPY

Great project!

Man, this is looking great! I just picked up 2 86's and am just starting to tear into them. Each has their own set of problems but at least I can pull parts from one to try and fix the other. My wife says I can only keep one though... we'll see. Haha! Keep up the good work. 👍🏻

Thanks Melrose, my FSM says that ring is an oil seal and is not reusable, but the discontinued parts manual shows it as just part of the cover with no separate seal. So Idk maybe I'll leave it alone for now before I cause more problems.

Thanks HSHSURF, and congrats on the 86's, some pics would be nice!...oh and your wife will get over it, just give her time...ask me how I know

Meet Blanca and Rosa. I figure if I name em then she'll have to let me keep em! They both need a lot of work but it's part of the journey.

Very nice! Looks like even the California rigs can't escape the rust-magnet chrome trim! I am not looking forward to pulling my windshield trim

Oh the chrome... yeah it's pretty bad. Unfortunately, that's the least of my worries at the moment. I've got to get them drivable first. Rosa has a cracked exhaust pipe and a leaking timing chain cover. Both are easy enough to fix. Blanca on the other hand has more serious issues. If I can't get Blanca running right soon I'll probably pull the motor out of Rosa and put it in Blanca. I've invested so much time into Blanca though and I still can't figure out why she won't run right. It's driving me nuts. Haha!

HSURF - yeah Blanca looks to be in better exterior shape than Rosa. Start up a thread, we all love following along, and maybe you can get a little help with some of Blanca's issues from the collective YT mind.

Thanks. I posted a few days ago about her. It's the post about no power going uphill. I'm just wracking my brain on this one. Don't want to hijack this post though. Such an awesome rebuild happening on this page. Check out my post. I'm open to any and all help!

hijack away I don't care! If Rosa does become a parts rig, I could use her fenders maybe...but then your wife would REALLY want her gone!

🤣🤣🤣 So true! I'll keep it mind though. My hope is to restore them both so my daughter has one. But shes not driving age for another 7 years. Maybe by then my wife will have just gotten over it and forgotten...

thanks for that, but it doesn't look like mine...if the drawing on the site means anything. It also says it's for 8/83 - 8/85 and mine was built 9/85. Kinda messed up that they advertise it as 86 but it only fits the first month of 86 production! It also says it fits when I enter all my vehicle info. I ordered those used ones off Ebay this morning

front disc dust covers I got off eBay are in amazing condition, and if I cared enough to clean them a little better they'd probably pass as new. Been spending ALOT of time brushing, scraping, cleaning and prepping the chassis for paint, got the first coat on yesterday. Every time I look in the mirror I see another Japanese rust flake somewhere on my face or neck haha

While trying to remove the sway bar end links of course they broke, so I soaked the sway bar to chassis bolts for a few days but still broke off 3 of the 4 while removing. maybe I need to start using my little propane torch with the PB blaster lol. While under there I realized I could use some new bushings for the big IFS mounts, hopefully they still make them?

On that note if anyone knows of any good Toyota parts places that you've found please let me know. Seems like someone out there would have a good collection of used parts. I found a place I think it was called Yota Yard in Denver that just closed down, wonder if someone bought out their inventory.
