1986 22r head & cam questions
First time posting. We are restoring my father-in-laws 1986 4x4 xtra cab that he graciously gifted to my and my wife. It has been in the family since about brand new. What started out as an assumed freeze plug issue, has turned into a much bigger animal. Long story short we either had to buy a reman engine, or rebuild the original. So we decided a rebuild to keep it #'s matching. The builder/machinist (who is an expert with these engines) is finally finished. He went .30 over on the bore. Now its time to re-assemble. I need to pick out a new head and cam. I am not sure which way to go. I do want more power and we were going in the direction of a supercharger in the future. But, now I'm not so sure. I looked at performance heads through LCE and they seem quite lofty at $1K+. I drive mountain/hilly areas and the ability to maintain speed if pulling a small trailer would be optimal. I'm realistic though. I was thinking of a performance cam/camper cam, but thought I'd ask yall experts for your opinions. If you have suggestions on where to find decent performance heads, that would be great. Also, it does have a performance header and a new weber carb. Just fyi. So basically I need to pick-out and source a new head and cam. Thank you in advance.

You might call 22raceworks and see which of their heads they recommend for your use, or rebuild what you have with their parts (but you would miss out on their port work). In my opinion the quality control just isn't there for LCE cylinder heads. They do make a nice header though. Also I would suggest making sure you are jetted correctly when you get everything set up. If you are leaning out at wide open throttle your new head won't last too long. Ease of pulling up hills with a small trailer will depend mostly on tire size in my experience. 31's and above you might want to think about regearing. https://www.22reraceworks.com/build-it-yourself/p/stage-1-cylinder-head-add-on
