my friends truck is having problems with the float - should he rebuild the carb? meaning how difficult is it? or should he go with a new carb such as a weber or something? who makes carbs for these motors?

Junk the stock carb if possible and get a weber, its a better carb, it will give you a little more power and better gas mileage once you get it dialed in.

you can buy individual parts for the stock carb or a kit ,they are good carbs.it is cheaper to rebuild than to replace.

how hard are they to rebuild? ive rebuilt little two stroke motors and carbs but they arent too complicated

they are not bad to rebuild. just take you time and lay the parts you remove in a out in some order. clean it up good and if you use carb cleaner to spray out the passages wear safety glasses. because if you spray into a passage on one side ,it will come out were you least expect it and straight into your eyes.

Don't put a weber on. The stock carb does a much better job of altitude compensation. Plus the rebuild kit is only around $60. They aren't that hard to rebuild. My advice is steal/borrow the wife/girlfriends muffin tin. Each section that you take off the carb put it in a different muffin pocket. When you go back together you know you will put it together in the right order. Plus, every part only has one home. Heck have your buddy take pictures while tearing down. The hardest part I think is the linkage on the back.
Also you can do just the float with the carb on the truck.
