1985-1995 Toyota 22R and 22R-E Cylinder Head Differences

Hello all,

While browsing for some miscellaneous parts, I noticed that the Cylinder Head for the 22R-E was still available from Toyota (pricey!).

Upon further investigation, it looks like Toyota has two different part numbers for the non-turbo cylinder head:

11101-35060 (Fits 22REC... RN5#, 6#, 70) [Replaced by 11101-35080]

and

11101-35050 (Fits 22R... RN5#, 6#, 70)

Has anyone ever seen any differences between the 1985-1995 22R and 22R-E cylinder heads?

I thought they were all the same, however, seeing the two different part numbers makes me wonder.

Maybe the 22re one includes a fuel pump blind plate, while the 22r number does not. That's the only difference I know.

The chart you linked to says that '85 to '95 carbed and EFI non-turbo heads are all the same. Only the earlier carbed heads have different port shapes.

Yes, but they do list a different combustion
chamber size for the Turbo head.

True, a few cc larger, but even so, the intake and exhaust port shapes remain the same as the other heads of that age.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, the turbo head is different and has a different part number than the two part numbers I listed above.

Everyone I have messaged said they didn't know of any differences.

Both 22RE Performance and LCE said they were not aware of the different part numbers and haven't noticed any differences in the OEM N/A heads that they have come across.

Jerry at 22RE Performance said the only thing he can think of is the possibility of slightly larger clearance for the carbureted mechanical fuel pump, but that hasn't been proven.

The 22R-E version is still available (the 22R part number is discontinued), according to parts.toyota.com, but if no one (including the folks that dedicate their lives to these engines) have seen a difference, I guess I can call both part numbers equivalent.

I am considering purchasing a new OEM head for my truck while Toyota still has them available, but didn't want to drop a large chunk of change on something that will need modification to work on my 22R.
