160 or 180 thermostat?

88 4Runner 22re auto
I am replacing the radiator and water pump as both are bad. Should I go with a 160 or 180 degree thermostat? More heat would be nice, but I also understand that running a 22re hot can be an Achilles heel. This one has 207k miles with no rebuild on it. Any experiences with both?

With the 22re you need to go with this dual t-stat part # 90916-03070.: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...tml#Thermostat

I used to have a 190, but now have a 180 in my 91 (auto) and a 190 in my 88 (5sp). I think I'm gonna put a 190 back in the 91 because the shifting is a tad slow.

I've never seen a 160 before. You sure you don't mean a 180 or a 190?

If they do make a 160 I don't think I'd run it. That's a little low. A 180 is a nice compromise.

I'm running a TRD 160* t-stat, its recommended for the TRD supercharger.

Since our trucks have the t-stat on the radiator return side of the engine they can be cooler than a vehicle with the t-stat on the top side.

I guess I kind of stand corrected, but then again your engine isn't really "one" of us in this forum.

For the engine the OP has which is a 22RE, at least I for one have never seen a 160 tstat. It just sounds like a whole lot of sludge to me in one of these engines.
