1100miles trip went very well!!!!
I drove my 86 toyota 4runner to tennesse and back about 1,100 miles and it did extremley well. But a few things have come up. On my way to tennesse it burned about 2 quarts of oil, no prob put more in just fine. It didn't burn any at all on the way back and new ever burned any around town for as long as i've had is some i'm kinda puzzled. Also it had an idle of about 850-900 now it idles at 1100-1500 for some reason.....dunno why.... any tips?

Do a compression test to give you an idea of how teh motor is, it maybe getting a little loose around the rings and just starting to burn it more. Are plugs wet?

have not done comp test it does not run bad so i would not think the compressions off....but yea thats possible.... yea i never really burned oil before until 400 miles to tennesse it burned about 2 quarts but it did not burn any on the way back.... plugs are dry.... if it does have worn rings its prolly #1 cyl...

On the way there if you pushed it harder, that can explain it. On my truck, if I stay above 70 mph sustained over a few hours, I will notice slight oil consumption (between a half and a full quart per 1000 km). If lower consistent speeds are kept, or, the motor is simply kept under less stress (no high-rpm passes, no high speed runs, etc), it burns virtually none, same as yours. If it runs properly, I'd let it be -- just get the idle back within spec, and call it good.

If its the first hwy driving you've done in a while and you previously drove a lot in the city without letting the engine run at full temp for a while, lots of crud boils off in a couple hours of driving. That would explain why the oil disappeared only in the first part of the trip.
