So a little bit back i noticed my 91 22re was slowly but surely leaking coolant/water.
so the other day got around to buying a water pump and today i went to change it
(The one armed part is because a couple weeks ago i broke my arm)

Anyway
im draining the cooling system and after close inspection of the coolant that emptied into the bucket i had, realized the color was rather odd
How Odd you ask



id really like to know why its looks like diehrea
especially since i recently replaced all the coolant
any ideas ??

 

maybe HG? cant see the pic, but if ur coolant looks like sh.... err.... KAKA, chances are theres oil in it

 

There is some poop in the coolant...rust? Run some flush through it. When was the last time it was changed?

it was changed very recently

 

could be rust?

even though ive flushed my motor, new coolant it still is filled with rust, and turns the antifreeze from green to a reddish brown.

 

so my radiator is rusted out ??

 

sounds like oil. but the photo isnt working..

 

If you had a mix of red and green coolant, it goes brown.

Milky/creamy looking coolant = oil contamination.

Sucks to break your arm. Mend up quick!

Oil in the coolant usually would mean a bad head gasket. What was the color of the coolant that you removed? Could it be a mix of new coolant, old coolant and rust?

I can't see the second picture either.

Green coolant and oil usually looks like melted mint chocolate chip ice cream to me (minus the chocolate chips, of course).

there was a hint of green in it for a while

stick your hand in it and look for oil traces, smell it........., smell some oil, does it smell the same? Looks like rust to me

 

my coolant started turning that color.. and within about 7,000 miles my headgasket blew. i'm not sayin that it can't be rust tho. i would torque down my headbolts, flush everything with a garden hose, and maybe change out the waterpump and radiator.. should fix the color, if not.. get ready to change your headgasket & possibly your head.

 

only problem is i already dumped it

but at least i thought of you guys and took a picture beforehand right ??

jcm, the reason why i figured out it was this color was i was changing my water pump and had to drain the system

 

does the inside of your old water pump look rusted?.. check it for any signs of corrosion... are there any small (very small) leaks anywhere on your radiator?.. just enough to leave a dried (maybe white, pink, or greenish) residue?

 

honestly i didnt check the radiator for leaks
all i know is the water pump (gasket) was leaking
so i put a new water pump on
promise to check tomorrow and first thing i do in the morning ill check the radiator for leaks
time to retire for the night

well i started her up and to get pressure into the system

the radiator isnt leaking
and unlike before i changed the water pump, it wasnt leaking either

 

its probably rust did you flush before you refilled the coolant? is it turning brown again? let it sit for a day or so in a bucket and you will see the oil separate from the coolant if that is what it is. If it is rust it should settle to the bottom of the bucket and look like sediment. when my HG blew i let it sit for 2 days before I got the parts delivered and when I drained the oil it was all coolant for about 10 secs before the oil came out.

 

i hope to god its not the head gasket
it was just replaced about 2 months ago
then one day due to me not knowing about this leak it over heated
needless to say i kept a very close eye on it until i just replaced the water pump
