zack188's 1984 Sr5 Rebuild

So this past saturday we had a birthday party for a friend in the middle of the woods...4hrs after it started I was climbing out my window because my door wouldnt open due to the ruts I ran off in..."opps". With that said I now have to replace my motor. Which is my first project , once my replacement motor is installed and running im going to be sanding and painting my truck as well as pulling the carpet it and putting a form of rubber down "havent decided exactly which brand yet". Then I will be tearing into lift \ tires \ lockers etc. This is just my thread to show what im doing to my old rust bucket as well as maybe ask a few questions.

Il have some "starter" pictures up soon.

Enjoy.

Well no pictures since my camera wants to be a jerk. But alot of progress , motors almost ready to come out. All lines , brackets , motor mounts are undone. Just ONE transmission bolt left....the pesky top one on the passenger side "under the carb'sh area"....

Are there any tricks to getting the top transmission bolt out? Ive been searching and googleing....I cant get a socket\ratchet combo to work and a wrench to fit that bolt is so big it bottoms out on the motor before it turns "comming in through the engine bay".

Help!?

I've heard of people lowering the tranny and using like 4 feet of extensions on a socket lol.
Or you could do what i did, and pull the the engine and tranny together.

i usually drop the transfer case first..cuts out a few extensions. also allows the transmission to get at a slight angle:

I really like this mod from Mr. Stubs Blueberry Krunch Build
he has done a lot of innovative stuff

Well with some creativity got the top two bolts out. To anyone wondering i found that the easiest way to get the top two bolts out is to hook your hoist to the motor and lift it enough to remove the motor mounts , then using the hoist to support 90% of the wieght lower the motor down to where the motor mounts would have been "but you removed them" this brings the engine towards the radiator a few inchs and you can remove the trans bolts from in the engine bay.

With that said the motor is basicly just sitting in my engine bay because i realized i need to do some much needed garage cleaning in order to make space for my motor...lol.

Still working on pictures. I will have some soon.
