I want to upgrade my drums to the 10inch ones...or 11inch ones (I may have my dimensions off, but I want the larger IFS ones). What year truck should I take the axle from to make the swap as easy as possible with as little cutting of wielding as possible. I am thinking it is the '86-'89, but any advice would be appreciated. I want to do this as easily as possible.

Anything from 86-95 will work. Just make sure you get the parking brake cbale that goes from drum to drum with it, the ones from the earlier trucks wont work.

the 86-95 axle will bolt up to a 79-85 truck no problem, you will need the 86-95 u-bolts and plates for it to bolt up, the axle tubes are a little bigger on the 86-95, the 79-85 u-bolts/plates wont fit around the axle

 

It is highly recommended that you use new U-bolts and nuts when doing axle swaps-spring replacements...
