Temp fix

He said he was going to pull the trim inside and add goop. I am going to ask him for a tube too.

Hey Teuf i had rust in exact same area as your truck lol, but on both sides.....anyways to fix it i took a grinder and grinded down all the rust until there was clean metal, then i sprayed it with some rust killer/ primer, after that i put some bondo where the rust had eaten away too much metal (that failed epically), but that didnt work out to well so instead i used JB weld (one tough mother!) and smeared that in the rust holes, let it sit sand it down a bit to make the surface a bit rough for the adheisive to grip better and then painted it with tremclad rust paint and it turned out great!

So the windshield adhesive will not stick to the bondo? That's what I was planning on doing.

Hey guys I got an old friend I am going to look up that is in the commercial glass business. They do a lot of custom work. I am going to see what kind of seal he can come up with, that will hopefully be a one piece deal like on a rear window. wouldn't that be great. I will let you guys know asap.

I just had my glass installed after I "fixed" all the rust.

mother of god.. there were some serious rust holes.'

Above the steering wheel I had a good 6-8" long hole.

I wire wheeled all the rust out, and found some bondo up on the roof, there was some rust under that, so I dug into the bondo and got rid of that rust too, I then put a chemical rust stripper on it, and then sprayed chemical rust reverser stuff.

then I layed up bondo all over the place, sanded it down and repeated te process, then I sprayed more of the rust converter stuff...

called the galss guy, and he put in my new glass with a black trim all the way around. It looks 1000000X better that that crap chrome.

I havent driven it yet to see if there are any wind leaks because my keys went awol in the oilfields..

Pictures speak volumes. The Glass guy I talked to told me the urethane used to glue the windshields in will not adhere to BONDO. He says body shops have to apply several coats of some kind of sealer to it and special primer to stick to bondo. He suggest using JB Weld or fiberglass if possible. I need to know some contact info for your guy so I can find out where he gets the seal and what kind it is. Was it a one piece connected seal or did he piece it together? How about some pics? What did you do with the clamps connected to the frame to hold the trim down?

The bondo isn't actujally on the mounting flange, but on the edge around it. He did apply a primer to the paint I had put down. And also to the rubber trim. He said that some glues stick to glass but not rubber, the other way around, and some stick to paint not glass. The primer he used makes it all stick. He also daid the glue he used is pretty expensive, and it'll eat up caulking guns. He has broken his electric cualking gun he said.

I guess that bondo is out of the question. So you just use JB weld as if you were doing a bondo job???

Good info brassnucks. You got a name on the super sticky primer in question???

Subscribed! I have the same problem, leaks over the steering wheel when it rains, rust bubbles on the edge by the chrome trim... there is no chrome anywhere else on the rig! Though it looks like it was painted black at one time. I want to redo the paint using the red herculiner on the body so thanks for that tip about JB weld. Now I won't worry about the trim or the clips, I'll just toss the sucker, that black molding looks great!

When mine was ready to go in for paint, I had the old windshield removed first. Then had everything sanded and cleaned out. Primed, new windshield installed with new sealant and a generic black gasket. I LOVE it. Not sure if you can see it in the pics:

Also, if you still have leaks after the windshield install, check for the infamous cowl leak. Ask me how I know.......
