What gears...opinions

I am getting my 3'' lift installed this week, my 33's put on and my crossover steering ordered and installed in the next week or so. The next thing on the list is gears of some form.

Would you rather have t-case gears / doubler or diff gears with a rear locker and open up front?

Keep in mind these are both in the same price range because I have the auto trans so I have to get the Auto - gear driven t-case adapter, the doubler adapter, gears for one of the t-cases AND 2 good cores from my local junkyard to do the t-case / doubler set up.

Having an automatic transmission is going to make it more expensive and harder for you expense wise and with the extra parts needed to add duel cases. for now, i would recomend that you get diff gears first, i would recomend 4.88 or 5.29 gears, depending on if your truck is a daily driver or more for off road.

A locker and some r&p gears will probably get you further up the trail than just the lower transfer case gears. It will get you some extra torque too, just not as much.

t-case doubler and weld the rear. with an auto there's no reason to put gears in the rear case just use two stockers.

Even then I still need the adapter, doubler and 2 gear driven cases. Welding the diff is not an option. I still want it to drive well on the street.

You should do R&P gears first. If you plan on using 2wd often....if it's strictly for trail use, then not regearing could be ok...then again, alot of things would be.

I'd say Aussies front and rear and gear at 5.29's. You'll be set for a couple of years while you save your money for the t-case crawler stuff.

Welding the rear aint that bad. Ive had it done on two trucks, and with the right tire pressure it BARELY barks around corners, its also cheap...

The 4.7 TG tc gears are AWESOME i love them. with 35s 4.10s and in low i can pull a car over a 4x4 without touching the gas

but with 5.29s it gets you like 15:1 over the 4.10s, if your truck sees street duty gear and lock first dont do the front till you get longs or a twinstick...

35's and 4.10's are painful in CO with a 22RE. Heck, 31's and 4.10's are painful

So, I took the rig out for her maiden voyage. We ran Carnage and everything was great. I definitely need to get gears and lockers though. That and Hy-Steer are next on the list.

I'm running Motive gears from PORC. Two sets of 5.29's and Master install kits were $429 plus shipping. I would have preferred Yukons but these will do for the price.
