Guess I'm a little late to help, but did you reuse the head bolts, or get new ones?

 

Headbolts? Only did the intake manifold.

 

Ooops. My bad. For some reason I thought this was a head gasket thread.

haha. and now I feel like an idiot.

 

Its all right man. The last week was a bear dealing with this. But now, its all said and done. Just have to tune the weber and all is good. Did find out the timing was wayyyyyyy off. was sitting at 18 degrees!!! brought her back to ten and smoothed it out nicely.

the 81-83 22r head and the 84 22r head are different from each other, the extra bolts in 84, and then in 85 they change the head again. only the 84 head is efi/carb out of the early 22r head. the 85 all was efi/carb head

that picture of the celica head is not a 84 head

 

Oh well. problem fixed, time to move on with our lives and start gather 22re parts from around town.
