Money couldn't be tighter right now. I am so called "in between jobs". Had a really good interview on friday though and I am expecting a call. I just came inside from the garage. They were actually really easy to get out. I am sure 6 months from now I will have them cleaned when I have extra money.

THE GOOD NEWS. I think the injector seals were the cause of my vacuum leak. The boots on each injector were considerably dryrotted and even disformed, very much so on #4, where the vacuum noise was coming from.

THE BAD NEWS. The parts store sucks! When I went to do the last one I opened up the seal kit and it was different. So I will have to wait until tomorrow to finish up and see if it runs.

One minor detail. When I had one of the injectors out I accidentally clicked the nozzle back. I can't seem to click it back out. Can I reinstall it like this or do I need to pull it back out? Sorry if this is a silly question.

OK, I am losing my mind. Not to mention my wife is getting fed up with me saying "I am sure this will fix it".

I changed all of the injector seals. That was not my problem and the truck still does the same thing. They were cheap and needed to be changed though.

The truck starts up, hisses and dies. I have looked over everything numerous times. All hoses are good and hooked up where they are supposed to be. The intake sealed up flush. Timing, tps, and idle should be close enough for it to at least run.

So back to the EGR. I think I'll try and make a couple of block of plates and scrap the whole system, then see what happens. I don't know what else to do.

Hypothetical question, if the EGR pipe was completely blocked, could that cause the problem I am having?

The reason I ask is when I put the block off plate on the back of the head I used sealant. Maybe I used too much and a chunk broke loose and caused some blockage?

No a clogged EGR would not cause the engine to die. It would if the EGR were stuck wide open, though.

Find where the hiss is coming from.

It is very difficult to find where the hiss is coming from. I will start the truck and before I can get out and get a hand on the throttle cable it will die. I don't have anyone to help me.

Thanks for all your help though. I'll go try and tinker with it some more and see what I can find out.

Well, I had a buddy come over so I had someone to keep it running while I messed with the motor. I took a while but I think I found the vacuum leak. It seemed to be leaking between the upper plenum and lower intake. Go figure. I knew it was something simple. When I took the old gasket off it was kinda smashed in one area. I'll go buy a new gasket tomorrow and hopefully that solves my problem.

Well I couldn't wait.

There was a tiny piece of the old gasket that stuck to the upper plenum that I missed. I scraped it off. Put the old gasket back on. Put it back together. And she goes Purrrrrrrr.
