I want to weld my v6 third member thats in my 85. Me and my budy peterbuilt welded his 4cyl rear and I want to do the same to mine but there is no room to work with on it like his. I just want detailed info from someone who has done it, or a link to a thread/site with pics thanks

The V6 thirds are pretty tough to get a welder in to. The 4 pinion carrier is pretty tough to weld. You would be better off with just a cheap welder, or a 4cyl welded third.

 

the 4cyl carrier wont fit in the v6 will it? i have an extra 4cyl but im using the v6's because they have 4.88 gears

 

As long as you have the same gear ratios, yes it will. But if the ratios are different, then you don't want to go messing with that.

 

well im thinking about just trying to weld it anyway. But I was wondering if I would be able to install a spool at my house with basic tools but I am thinking proble not. so how hard is it to install a spool?

 

im in the same pickle. trying the weld the rear gears in my 92 with a v6. im gonna go the spool route, and i found this company selling a full spool for a v6 rear for 70.

Why not buy a locrite for your v6? They're cheap, and hold up very well, unless you're using HUGE tires.

Setting up a locrite isn't too hard, but you need to be able to set the gear clearance and side bearing preload properly. Read up on zuk's site for instructions, or take the diff to a driveline shop and have them supply and install the locrite. Prolly cost you $300 all done. And it will be more streetable than a welded unit.
