I honestly can’t recomend sealant or not on the cork oil pan gasket as I’ve never done one that calls for cork. Sorry, maybe someone can chime in.

I think you made the right move installing paper and fiber gaskets dry. I did the same and my 22re hasn't leaked a single drop of oil or coolant in 13k miles (in almost 2 years).

Just like others said fipg gets used real sparingly, especially pre-84: only the half moons, deck surface where timing cover meets block, the bottom edge of rear main cover gasket, just where it'll contact the cork gasket, and the few bolts that thread right through the block or head (one egr bolt, one of the oil pump bolts and the distributor adjust bolt).
