truss it or what?

im workin on my high steer, but while im down here should i truss the axle housing?? I usually run loggin roads and mild trails but who knows where she will take me now. i have 35x 12.5 mtr's but im trying to wrap this project up???
truss? no truss??

how common are bent housings???? do i really need a truss??? i know they are cheep, but so am i. i have bills and a family you know!!!!!!

I guess they're common on the older 79 and early 80's axles (if your a vehicle abuser) but in 84 and up the factory added a gusset underneath the housing to strengthen it.

Your 85 should have this, but you can add an upper gusset to make it even stronger. It's cheap and if you have welding experience, you can do this your self.

thanks for the advise. the highsteer projects is going well. the marlin knuckle kit went smooth and the trail gears arms went on good. the tie rods are stellar looking!!!!! funny thing is, i had to cut a 4inch hole in my garage wall to pull the axle out!!!!! ha ha!!!! other than that napa wants 425 bucks for an ifs box and the junkyard is empty!!!! im in limbo. need a box bad, i live in bham wa. let me know if you can help!!!!

Not right now. i need to get it back on the road for camping this season!!!!! nature calls, you know. plus i am "ballin on a budget", and work is very, very, very, slow. good thing i bought my parts when i did. im gunna be scrappin for nickles shortly!!!!!

The upper trusses are only $25 dollars plus shipping..

I have a marlin upper one that i never used.
Ill sell ya it for $15 if you want it.

No its a trail gear bumper..

Actually....
Im not sure about the truss.
Ive heard people say that it isn't needed, and more often then not people can warp the housing when welding it on..

I just didn't want to take the chance so i got that truss and the knuckle ball trusses..
Are they necessary? No
does it help.. I couldn't tell you..

i kinda like how the axle looks without it personally. I NEED TO FIND A BOX!!!!! is that a winch mount bumper from trail gear??? if so how much did you pay for it??

Trussing

Ron it really depends on your driving style and setup, it is cheap insurance to prevent an bent housing if anything.

I bent a 79 housing and it was bent at the lower axle ball on the driver side from jumping and wheel stands "wheeling it hard"

found a box in ferndale, 75 bucks. everything is mocked up and looking good. ik need to do some welding on the top of the frame for the steering mount.

Yes it is.. I payed standard pricing for it.. . You can see it at trail-gear.com

You could also buy from either Tofer or wabfab.., they are both TG dealers...
