Transmission ?? what is compatible??

Good day one and all!
I am in the process of doing a Transmission swap once I figure out what year
is compatible with my 91 toyota, 22re 2 wheel drive .A job I will be doing on
my own, thanks to you guys an the Haynes manual. Finance is tight right now,
this is the reason I am searching for a use transmission, something I can afford
at this time. I have found a few on craigslist, but I have been unsure of what year
is compatible with mine that I can use, and does it make a difference if it is from a 4 wheel drive, or if
it is carburetor? Thanks!

You will need to know what transmission you have in your truck. The transmission code is on the VIN plate as shown below:

Diagram source: 4Crawler

I would guess you have a W55 5-speed manual transmission, but check the VIN plate to be sure.

You will need a transmission out of a 2WD truck. It does not matter between carbureted or Fuel Injected.

Good morning Jake, yes it is W55, 5 Speed. My main question is What year range should I search for when it comes to my transmission? I am unsure of that bracket of years.
what other year besides my 91?

I am not 100% sure, but I think all 1989-1995 W55 transmissions from these trucks were the same.

The earlier versions (1988-ish and earlier) had a different shifter base.
