A little back story... We sold my wife's V8 Touareg and will probably not replace it for the foreseeable future. Problem is that we have a 1998 23ft Regal LSR. Probably tops out at 4.5-5k (total including dual axle trailer with surge brakes). I've got a '94 4runner V6 with towing package. I know I'm way over the 3500lb limit, but the trip to the lake is around 5 miles, totally flat, only secondary roads. No extra cargo in the car. We only go around 4-5 times a season, so was wondering...?

For only 5 miles on back roads I wouldn't sweat it. Take it easy on the clutch if you have one. Turn off overdrive if using and automatic.
