i tried to search this but i cant get a straight answer-

what metric (285/70R16) tire size is equivalent to a 33x12.50r15------

i got a set of steel wheels that are 16's and i would like to put them on my truck but i'm not familiar with this metric stuff.


anybody running such a tire????

 

Go to any manufacturer's website and you can see specifications for their tire sizes. For example, here are the specifications for BF Goodrich MT KM tires:

If my scribbled notes are correct, an LT305/70R16D will be fairly close to a 33x12.50 - 15. OD and width specifications are listed for both on the linked webpage.

For future reference, there are lots of on-line metric tire size calculators, like this one:

The first number is the width in mm. 25.4mm=1in

The second number is the ratio. If it says 65, then the sidewall height is 65% of the width.

33*12.5=12.5*25.4=317.5mm

(33-15)/2=9

The sidewall is 9" tall.

9/12.5=72%

Therefore 317.5/72R15 is THE closest you can get.
